Meet Rob Cardazone

I was born and “bread” in New Jersey, salted in Philadelphia and peppered in New York City. I’ve lived here for 36 years and I’ve been a tour guide for 13 of them. I’m a descendant of Italian immigrants who came through Ellis Island. I studied acting at the University of the Arts in Philly and Playwriting at CUNY Hunter, and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else but New York.

Crazy thing about my undergrad education, the program that I attended was so new, there weren’t any theatre academics in place, so we had our academic classes in the connected art school. This gave me a solid background in art history, and a love of art.

Now, Art and Theatre aside, let’s do some math: When you study History, you learn it war by war by war. When you study theatre and art, you learn history through a different lens: You learn how theatre and art reflect society, and the way people live their daily lives. So… acting, writing plays, background in history and art = Performative story teller with a wealth of knowledge to share.

I actually got my tour guide license when I got into grad school, so I could find work to fit around my class schedule.

When I’m not guiding tours, I’m still writing (it’s quite an arduous climb!) I give readings of my plays, (working sometimes with Broadway actors), I coach acting and writing (newbies and pros), and I still do a little acting myself (mostly short films, so far).

All of this reading, research, writing, coaching, etc., keeps me inside far too much. Let’s get out, and I’ll show you the city I call home- a city of history, art, culture, people and food from all around the world- a city where everything is possible.

I give the following tours:
